Ink & Chapter vs Lulu

Lulu is primarily a print-on-demand platform with author-services upsells. We are a studio. The two solve different layers of the problem, and many of our clients use Lulu for one specific function (usually direct-to-consumer hardcover fulfillment) alongside us for production.

The verdict

Lulu is the right choice if you have already finished and produced the book and want a DTC fulfillment route or a low-cost POD setup. We are the right choice if you need the book written, edited, designed, and launched — and want one accountable team.

Lulu Press comparison FAQ

Questions authors ask before choosing one.

Can I use Lulu for fulfillment and your studio for production?

Yes. Common pattern: we write, edit, design, format. You take the print PDF and publish on Lulu for direct-to-consumer hardcover sales (Lulu has a strong DTC ecommerce front), KDP for Amazon, and IngramSpark for wide bookstore. Three channels, distinct purposes.

Is Lulu's print quality good?

Acceptable for paperback, mixed for hardcover. They make it easy to set up DTC hardcover fulfillment, which most other PODs do not. For premium hardcover gift books, a short-run offset printer produces a noticeably better physical product.

What does Lulu not do?

They do not write, edit, or design the book for you. They have author-services partners for those layers, but the work is sub-contracted out. If you want one team, one project lead, one contract, the studio model is the cleaner fit.
